La Pataterie's menu is a celebration of Montreal diner staples, with an emphasis on the star ingredient: fresh-cut fries that are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Their poutine stands out as a city favorite, boasting an abundance of squeaky cheese curds nestled under a generous cup of rich gravy—an indulgence that hits all the right savory notes. Whether you opt for the traditional poutine or a steaming hot-dog variety like the Vapeur (steamed hot dog) or the Michigan with its flavorful toppings, each bite bursts with nostalgic goodness. Fans also rave about the bacon double cheeseburger, complete with grilled onions and perfectly cooked patties, handmade to order and dripping with smoky, cheesy delight.
Dining at La Pataterie is like stepping into an authentic Montreal greasy spoon. The interior may show signs of its steady popularity over the years, but this only adds to the charm, evoking memories of classic diners where the menu is still proudly displayed on old-school boards rather than modern digital screens. The service here is quick, friendly, and straightforward—exactly what you want when you’re craving fast, robust eats that don’t cut corners.
Locals and visitors alike treasure the spot not only for its food but for the atmosphere of genuine community. Sitting down here feels like joining a shared ritual of savory indulgence, surrounded by fellow Montrealers who know and appreciate a good casse-croute when they see one. Recommended by friends and colleagues in MTL, this was my first time going to La Pataterie. When the menus are on the old school boards and not the flat screen TVs, you know you're in the right place. It's a perfect greasy spoon type diner, the service was easy, quick and the food hit the spot. Definitely one of the best poutines I've had in the city. Normally I don't eat glizzys, but I tried something new and got the grilled hotdogs (all dressed) and was pleasantly surprised. I love venturing into new neighborhoods and La Pataterie was a great find. Recommending this place!

We’ve been on a casse croute (snack bar) tour of Montreal and this place is by far our favourite ! Authentic and savoury at the BEST price… made to order and quick service ! Even on a Saturday they don’t disappoint. It’s a must try and worth the trip to Hochelaga! The bacon double cheeseburger is INCREDIBLE and the poutine has a TON of squeaky cheese all at a reasonable price. Can’t wait to go back

Delicious fries, great hot dogs and good service. Only negative is the restaurants interior desperately needs some cosmetic repairs at the minimum, but being such a popular and busy spot, I definitely understand that trying to do some renovations would drastically impact business. If you want a quick eats, it's a must

Eating with the locals ! This is a local favorite. Fresh fresh fresh. The burger is made to your desire. Freshly made. I have a double bacon cheeseburger with grilled onion. It tastes amazing. The fresh cut fries are plenty and delicious. The Gravy is 1.89 - they give you a whole cup. There are lots of drinks to choose from. There are lots of combos and if you just choose to have a burger there are lots of specials for $4 or $5. There’s a small parking area and you can also park along this small street. The seating outside is very nice. Inside is like a retro cafeteria with big TV showing sports programs. Mind you the line up is very long. But it goes very fast. They have very efficient young people taking orders and cooking. It’s like a South Street Burger type of line but this burger is worth the waiting. 5 stars

As classic as a Montreal Casse-Croute favourite can get. Situated in the breast of the Hochelaga village, the menu at this restaurant checks all of the essential boxes. A steamie & a poutine is my casse croute go-to so it was the #4 for me. If you're a lover of squeaky cheese curds this poutine is for you. I wasn't crazy about the gravy but it was a smashing poutine overall. Steamie hit the spot too. Service was fine & the price was right.

Came here for the first time. I ordered large poutine which was serve very quickly. The sauce was great as well as the cheese. I wasn't a fan of the french fries. The interior was dirty but it also had that 90s charm to it that wasn't well kept. Staff was nice.

I was told by my friend who is a true connoisseur of poutine that I had to try so we went together...I had an absolutely scintillating poutine full to the brim with squeaky cheese curds and some of the best French fries in the city. The hotdogs were fresh and the huns were soft. The price was very good for the quantity of food given. The staff was very kind and helpful. We will definitely come back.

Yummy! The texture of the fries and cheese is amazing, and their sauce is delicious, not too salty. It's the perfect place for a quick but delectable poutine. The prices are fair. It can get pretty loud.
